Field Trips and Group Visits

The Nest offers a variety of group experiences designed to engage young learners through play, creativity, and discovery. Whether you’re planning a visit to our space or want us to bring the fun to you, we offer flexible, standards-aligned programs for schools, camps, and other groups.

Self-Guided Group Visits

Invite your students or group to experience the joy of learning through play in our interactive indoor space.

Details:

  • Explore at your own pace! Children will have access to all exhibit areas at The Nest, including our Outdoor Learning Garden.
  • Intended for children ages 0-5 years old.
  • $150 for up to 25 people for 60 minutes.
  • Additional visitors (up to a maximum of 35) are $6 each.

Field Trips with a Lesson

Enjoy a STEM lesson and activity followed by free play in The Nest.

Includes:

  • PreK students only, ages 3-5.
  • Includes a 30-45 minutes hands-on lesson in our Program Room, followed by free play time in The Nest.
  • $200 for up to 25 people for 90 minutes.
  • Additional visitors (up to a maximum of 35) are $6 each.
  • Choose from availble lessons below:
  • Sense-ibilities: Explore the senses with a picture book, hands-on activities where students make guesses using their senses, and a craft.
  • Sink and Float: Students will explore if objects sink or float. Includes a story book reading and a take-home craft.
  • Bee School: Students will learn all about bee life cycles, pollination, and bee jobs with a picture book, role-playing game, and hands-on craft.

Policies and Procedures

  • Field trip requests must be made at least 4 weeks before the preferred visit date to ensure adequate staffing and resources. Requests later than 4 weeks may be considered on a case-by-case basis.
  • The Nest has limited capacity. The space cannot accommodate more than 35 people, including all adults and siblings.
  • Everyone must be included in the admission prices, including all adults and any siblings joining the visit. Infants under 3 months are free.
  • We require an adult to child ratio of 1 adult for every 6 children.
  • Both self-guided visits and field trips to The Nest are only available weekdays (Monday-Friday) at 10am or any time after 1:30pm. We cannot accommodate visits during the summer (June-August).
  • Groups may use our Outdoor Learning Garden for 30 minutes before and after their visit (they are also welcome to use it during their visit). There are no staff from The Nest in the garden; students must be supervised by adults from your group.
  • The Nest does not have a gift shop or food for sale. There is a Starbucks in the Harris Teeter next door, a Chik-Fil-A next door, and Alfredo’s Pizza across the parking lot from there. Food may only be eaten in the front sitting area or outside.
