About the makery
Located in the heart of RTP, The Makery is our creative makerspace for upper-elementary kids, tweens, teens, and adults. Whether you’re crafting with your own materials or exploring maker kits, this welcoming space brings ideas to life through innovation, collaboration, and play.
What to Expect
- Access to a variety of tools, recycled materials, art supplies, making machines, and support from skilled staff
- Ideal for independent tweens (14–17 may attend Open Maker Sessions with prior adult consent via waiver) or younger children accompanied by an adult
- Pre-registration is required for all sessions to ensure space and supplies
Explore Our Offerings
Maker's Choice
Create freely using the variety of materials, tools, and equipment we have to offer, including recycled materials, art supplies, tools, and making machines. You will also have access to our very experienced and talented Makery staff to ask questions or provide support if you want to try your hand at something new!
Maker's Project
Purchase a prepared maker kit and work on the project in our makerspace with access to additional materials or assistance from our trained Makery staff. You can expect to complete the project in one session and be able to take it home with you! Kits are subject to availability, may change weekly, and price dependent.
Maker's Workshop
Maker Workshops focus on a specific type of making and are led by one of our skilled Makery team members or an artist from the community! These workshops are scheduled outside of open maker sessions and each will have its own description and intended audience.

The North Carolina Children’s Museum (NCCM) is actively seeking funding to expand The Makery, our maker space for kids, teens, and adults of all ages. Our goal is to ensure every family in North Carolina has access to quality maker education programming that supports learning, connection, and community wellbeing.
